Death Valley Roadtrip

On the way through Death Valley, we stopped at Badwater, the lowest place in the US at 282 feet below sea level. There was water there, too: lots of it! You can see it in the background of the picture above.

One of the more interesting plants we saw was desert trumpet, or Erigonum inflatum. When it's green, it looks like just kinda odd. When it's dry, like in the lower picture, it looks even odder. At first, it was thought the plant really grew like this; now there's some speculation that insect activity causes it, like the oak galls you might have seen on some oak trees.

Next, out the south end of the park. No, not that South Park.
