Chris's Wine Page!

There are four major wine areas in Australia: the Hunter Valley area (New South Wales, north of Sydney), the Barossa (South Australia, north of Adelaide), the Coonawarra (South Australia, southeast of Adelaide) and the Margaret River area (West Australia, south of Perth).

Hunter

This is home to Lindemans, a unit of Sousecorpse, er Southcorp. Their tour is known as The Ultimate Indulgence, costs $30, and must be booked in advance on (02) 4998 684.

Rosemount are also here, in Denman.

Barossa

d'Arenberg are in the McLaren Vale.

Penfolds are in Nuriootpa. Penfolds Barossa Ultimate Tastings Experience: Rare opportunity to taste Grange, Yattarna, Bin 707 and other Penfolds icons. Private tutored tasting, bookings essential (24 hours notice required), POA. Tel: (08) 8568 9408.

There's also another Penfolds winery close in to Adelaide: the Penfolds Magill Winery and Restaurant at 78 Penfold Road, in Magill. Tours depart Monday to Sunday at 11.00am, 1.00pm, 3.00pm and including Public Holidays (except Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day). Tour costs $15 and lasts 50 minutes followed by a tasting of Penfolds wines.

Yalumba are out here too, somewhere. Think viognier.

Padthaway

Probably not a really huge area, Padthaway is between Adelaide and Coonawarra.

Coonawarra

Lindemans have a cellar door here.

Parker Coonawarra Estate appear to be the highfalutin' winery in town.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate are not surprisingly in Coonawarra. There's a cellar door, etc.
