One-Day Itinerary
- Depart from Taree for Wingham on Tourist Drive Eight.
(Travelling time 15 minutes. Travelling distance 15km.)
- Explore Wingham Brush, part of the last remaining 10 hectares
of subtropical floodplain rainforest in NSW. Recommended time to
allow for this activity: 30 minutes for a leisurely walk through
this nature reserve taking in the trails to explore giant Moreton
Bay figs and one of Australia's largest permanent maternity site
for grey headed flying foxes.
- Travel from Wingham along Tourist Drive eight to Ellenborough
Falls. Stopover for morning tea at Bobin Bush Café in Bobin.
(Recommended stopover time 40 mins)
- Continue to Elands and arrive at Ellenborough Falls, passing
through this village and stopping at Ellenborough Falls, one of
the largest single drop waterfalls in the southern hemisphere at
200 metres. No matter what time of the year you visit or despite
low rainfall this waterfall continually flows. (Recommended time
for this stopover: 1hour). Refreshments and snacks available at
Ellenborough Falls kiosk on weekends, public holidays and schools
holiday periods - located in the carparking area.
- Depart Ellenborough Falls and return to Elands on Tourist
Drive Eight following tourist drive eight to Comboyne. (Travelling
distance 25km Travelling time 30 minutes
- Lunch stopover at the Udder Cow Café (Recommended stopover
1hour)
- Return to tourist drive eight and travel through the village
Bybarra and the town of Wauchope. Tourist Drive 8 ends at
Wauchope. Alternative scenic drive from Comboyne is through the
villages of Lorne and Kendall (unsealed roads). Stopover at the
Lorne Valley Macadamia nut farm at Lorne. (Recommended stopover 40
mins)
- Rejoin Pacific Highway and travel south towards Taree. Depart
from highway at Hannam Vale to explore Coorabakh National Park.
(Travelling distance 40km. Travelling time 35 minutes.)
- Highlights include Watui Falls, Big Nellie Mountain, Flat Rock
Lookout, Starrs Creek Rainforest Area, Newby's Lookout and Newby's
Cave. Big Nellie Lookout is a large volcanic plug rising to a
height of 560 metres above sea level. At the top you will
experience panoramic views of the Comboyne Plateau, Hannam Vale
and Lansdowne Valleys. The climb takes about 20 minutes.
Recommedned for fit and experienced bush walkers.
- Return along Coopernook Forest Drive via forest roads (25km).
Here the Forest Drive returns to the Pacific Highway at Forest
Road.

DAY ONE

village of Bybarra to Wauchope. Tourist Drive 8 ends at Wauchope.

- Return to accommodation base in Manning Valley.
DAY TWO
- Depart for Crowdy Head taking the Pacific Highway and leaving
the highway at Moorland. (Travelling distance 28km.) Arrive at
Crowdy Bay National Park. (Travelling time from Taree 1 hour)
- Diamond Head. There are three nature walks provided in the
park which are of varying lengths. These include the Cliff Base
Walk, Diamond Head Loop Track and Kylie's Rest Area Walk. This
second shorter loop starts at famous Australian author Kylie's
Tennant's historic hut. (Recommended time for this activity 2
hours)
- Return to Pacific Highway and Moorland for lunch break at
Moorland Cottage (Travelling distance 20km, Travelling time 30
mins) and the best scones on the north coast.
- Travel to Pjurrigan National Park to see the Bird Tree and the
Benaroon, the two largest Blackbutt trees known in the State. The
Bird Tree has a diameter of 3.59 metres and a height of 69 metres.
The Benaroon has a diameter of 4.10 metres and a height of 64
metres.
